International Women’s Day And The Inspiring All-Female Sailing Crew

AUCKLAND, New Zealand – International Women’s Day is a global call for female equality and empowerment, this day is celebrated yearly on March 8th and is particularly pertinent to Team SCA. The all-female professional sailing team has demonstrated great resilience and courage in so far completing more than half of the Volvo Ocean Race – arguably the most demanding sports event on the planet – with the hardest part of the race still ahead of them.

ALL-FEMALE SAILING CREW PROVIDE INSPIRATIONIt is the first time in 12 years women have competed in this punishing 38,739-nautical mile round-the-world yacht race – the ultimate test in human endurance. SCA, the Swedish leading global hygiene and forest products company, are supporting Team SCA as part of its campaign for women to participate in all aspects of society, including those aspects normally dominated by men.

ALL-FEMALE SAILING CREW PROVIDE INSPIRATION All American Women's DaySkippered by Sam Davies a renowned British single-handed sailor, Team SCA will be starting the Leg Five of the Volvo Ocean Race -from Auckland to Itajai, Brazil – which is said to be the most brutal yet. The crew will face freezing temperatures, fiercely strong winds, freezing temperatures, deep waves and hazardous icebergs. The Volvo Ocean Race started on October 2014 in Spain.  The end of June 2015, in Gothenburg, Sweden the team will finish the round-the-world yacht race.

ALL-FEMALE SAILING CREW PROVIDE INSPIRATION on International Women's DayOn March 8th Team SCA will join with millions all over the world to celebrate International Women’s Day. To celebrate achievements and inspire women there are thousands of events held throughout the world.  At beginning of the Volvo Ocean race Team SCA launched Amazing Women Everywhere, this is an amazing global storytelling initiative to celebrate women from all over the world who have had a positive impact on others, their surroundings or communities. The cornerstone of the Amazing Women Everywhere campign is a digital photo mosaic which enables anyone to share the story of the women who inspire them.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2015Team SCA, exemplify this spirit. Coming from all walks of life and backgrounds Team SCA comes together to face one of the world’s most challenging endeavours, the Volvo Ocean Race. Their journey will last nine months, their determination and hard work will inspire millions of people from all around the world, different backgrounds and different walks of life – Amazing women truly are everywhere!  The Amazing Women Everywhere campaign is your chance to share a story of someone who has inspired you .  The campaign will run the same time period as the race.

The Amazing Women Everywhere campaign is connected to a donation to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), an organization which shares the SCA’s commitment to creating value for people and nature. The SCA will make a donation to the WWF for each story that is uploaded to the mosaic.
