Using Intel Tablet for Educational Purposes This Summer

by Jenn Brockman

The kids are out for summer.  Sure I’m happy, but I’m also worried about summer learning loss, especially for one of my children.  She struggled all last year, and the very end of the year she put her nose to the ground and worked hard.  She barely made it, and I don’t want her to start out the school year on a bad foot again next year so we’ve been talking about ways for her to stay motivated, and her biggest motivating factor was using mom tablet.  YES, the tablet that is off limits lol.  Darn kids, but how do I say now?  I can’t.

Here are a few ways we’re keeping my daughter motivated to work hard even during the summer in hopes of avoiding summer learning loss, with my Intel Tablet!

  • Scholastic.com – If you have not heard of Scholastic, they are AWESOME, and it’s a free program.  They do an awesome job motivating kids to read during the summer.  Every year they try and break the world record, it’s exciting, and they have tons of valuable information on their website.
  • Brain Chase – Okay, I am VERY excited about Brain Chase it starts the 22nd of June will help with all sorts of different areas and is loads of fun.  Brain Chase is by far one of the coolest programs available to help keeps stay on their A game even during the summer.
  • Reading – Vayda will not only be taking part in this program she’s going to be using my Intel Tablet to read her assignments, books, and more.
  • Research – Vayda has asked me if I would give her one small research assignment each week so she can learn how to use the computer.  Since My Intel Tablet is set up just like my laptop, she can continue using the tablet, AWESOME right.
  • Apps – There are several GREAT educational apps for kids in the Windows Store, Google Play, and iOS and I’m 99% sure we’ll be adding a few to our collection since she has outgrown the apps we currently have.
  • OneDrive – Okay, if you know me you know I’m a OneDrive freak, and my kids are learning to be the same way.  My daughter will be saving all her homework in our OneDrive so we can access it whenever we need.  She’s going to be staying with her grandparents for a few weeks this summer, so she’s going to need it in a natural spot.
  • Crafts inspiration – My daughter is a crafty girl and any spare time she has she is either looking for crafting project or starting one.  I know she will be using my Intel Tablets to find inspiration for her summer crafts.   This might not be educational at times, but for the most part she is always thinking out of the box and puts herself in 100%.  She’s learned so much over the past few months, and it’s been all on her own.  I would say 70% of the crafts she likes are crafts she learns something from.  It’s better than watching TV, right!

What are things you’re doing this summer to avoid summer learning loss?  Will you be using your tablet?  How?
