Any time of year is a great time to talk about saving money but with the holidays creeping up on us I have started doing little things to start cutting costs. I’m a FREAK when it comes to over spending and paying for things we don’t need, can get cheaper, or even do ourselves.
Painless Tips to Help You Cut Expenses
Here are a few painless tips to help you cut back on your spending.
.) Don’t have a budget? It’s time to make one! – If you don’t currently have a budget in place, it’s time to sit down and figure out how much money you have coming in and going out each month. Saving money is almost impossible without a budget.
.) Go back for your list! Do It! – I leave the house 80 percent of the time and forget my list. I have learned; the list is worth going back for. Not only do I get everything on my list, I save money because I’m not just grabbing things I think we might, maybe need. Plus, it’s easier to stick to the budget thingy you just created if you go to the store with a list and an idea as to how much you’ll spend.
.) Coupons, Discount Codes, and Comparing prices ROCKS! – I used to skip the coupons, discount codes and comparing prices because I didn’t have time for them. MAN, I wish I had been smarter or moved in with my aunt earlier in life because she seriously saved about $40 EVER time she went to the store thanks to her coupon stash. I shop online, and after learning how coupons help I started hitting the discounts codes, and they seriously save you some money. And, you should never be too busy to compare prices on pricy items, if you are maybe you should consider shopping on a day you have more time to shop around.
.) Stop eating out… Pack your lunch – Not only will packing a lunch save you money, but it’s also almost always healthier. Well, unless you pack pizza and cokes, but even in that case you’re going to save money.
.) Take a walk, don’t drive. – When you can walk rather than driving. This will save you some money on gas, as well as wear and tear on your vehicle.
.) Use apps – There are great apps out there like GasBuddy that will tell you where you can find the best prices on gas in your area.
.) Get creative with leftovers – My kids never want the same thing two nights in a row, so I have to get creative with leftovers. There are some great recipes on Pinterest or other blogs if you need ideas.
.) Make your coffee – I used to be horrible about stopping for coffee. Sure it doesn’t seem like a lot, but when you add up your monthly coffee bill, you might see things a little differently, mainly because you can purchase coffee much cheaper.
.) Save before spending – Yes, you did that budget thingie right? Well somewhere in there you should include how much money you want to save out of each paycheck and put it up right away.
.) Be a smart online shopper – I shop online all the time, and I’m telling you Ebates.com has saved me some serious money. You’ll find coupon codes and even earn cash back on every purchase you make. All you have to do is visit Ebates.com, type in the name of the store you’re shopping at, and use their link to head over to the store.
.) Use the rewards programs – So many stores offer rewards programs anymore. Be sure and take advantage of them, you’ll earn rewards for things you’re already purchasing and in the end save a little extra money.
.) Bills, bills, and more bills. – Yes, you can save money on your bills, I’m going to bet your wireless bill can stand to be tweaked a little. There are places like that can save you money, without credit checks or contracts. Check it out:
