Heavenly. I don’t use that word often. In this case it’s appropriate. Why is it appropriate? Because at the end of our first day in Oahu we were there. HEAVENLY Island Lifestyle at Shoreline Hotel Waikiki is a natural health food café. They serve locally sourced and organic dishes. Now the first thing that comes to mind when someone says “natural” or “organic” is probably boring food that a cow would chew on. Hardly. The food at Heavenly at Shoreline Hotel Waikiki is anything but boring. In a way, it makes perfect sense. The Hawaiian Islands. Get it? Islands. It takes a lot to get Vermont cheese to Hawaii. Or Maine Lobster. Or Cincinnati Chili. So serving food that is local and organic is a way to be environmentally friendly AND economical. And Tasty!! Did I mention Tasty?
I’ll be honest. I’m not going to do the food proper justice. The simple reason for that is because I think we got to try almost everything on the menu and we lost track. We kept eating and they kept bringing stuff. I was taking pictures, the hubby was taking pictures, we were trying to keep track, but eventually we just gave in and enjoyed the food.
And there was a lot of food to enjoy.
There was the Manoa Lettuce Wrap. Yes, occasionally I eat lettuce. Especially when it is filled with the most amazing Shinsato Ground Pork. And no, I’ll be honest I don’t know what Shinsato means. It might mean yummy. I made a vow that during this trip I wanted to try Local Hawaiian food whether I knew what it was or not. But this was super yummy.
We also had some Kona “Kanpachi” Coconut Ceviche. I love sushi so ceviche didn’t scare me. This was served on hearts of palm and was super yummy.
I might be saying yummy too much. I apologize.
There was the Hamakua Mushroom Marinade. No, this isn’t your local pubs’ Deep Fried Mushrooms. These were local mushrooms served marinated. The hubby steered clear since he isn’t a fan of mushrooms in general but I thought they were…no, not yummy. Delicious.
I could go on and on, but I don’t want to just list out the menu. The Kahuka Garlic Shrimp. The local Avocado Guacomole with Sweet Potato Chips. The Shinsato Pork Big Island Ginger Saute. The Big Island Ginger Ahi Poke.
Like I said, it’s hard to do it all justice, so I’ll simply say this, it was a Heavenly end to our first full day on O’ahu.

Aaaah…Hawaiian food! When I went to the Big Island I couldn’t wait to try the food. I grabbed a big helping of Poi. After that, my yearning left me. Must be an acquired taste!! LOL
