by Jenn Brockman

Dorm life comes with a lot of fun and excitement and many people dream of the day they get to move into a dorm. The idea of living with your roommates, having fun and parties in the night, sharing stories and making memories that you will cherish for the rest of your life are all the perks that dorm life brings with itself. However, living in a dormitory comes with its fair share of problems, especially for those who have led a comfortable home life before moving into a room.

Must-Have Shower Essentials for Every Student Moving to a College DormOne of the most significant problems that dorms bring with itself is sharing spaces and at times other stuff that might get annoying for people who are used to having their private areas. The most frustrating bit is using communal bathrooms. Since you do not have attached bathrooms in your rooms, a large shared bathroom with small cubicles or shower areas are there to be used by everyone in the dorm. Maintaining the hygiene, cleanliness, being able to shower peacefully and comfortably while at the same time making sure that you do not get late for your classes is something that demands a lot of adjustments and hits and misses to learn. However, if you have the right kind of essentials for yourself, your life becomes much more relaxed and comfortable. Here is a list of all the things that you need for your communal shower survival kit while you are living in a dorm.

A Mesh or Plastic Shower Organizer or Caddy

The latest hit trend is the canvas organizers that every store is selling these days. Everyone will tell you to carry one of those canvas caddies or pouches, and you might as well see many of your dorm mates moving them too. However, what most people will not tell you that most of the time you will not have access to dry bathrooms and finding a clean, dry place to keep your caddy is a real struggle. Unfortunately, once wet, canvas takes a lot of time to dry, and there is a high chance you will end up with a moist and moldy organizer. A mesh or plastic organizer is a lifesaver since they do not take much time to dry, do not retain moisture and are super easy to clean and maintain.

A Bathrobe

One of the most frustrating parts of using communal bathrooms in a dorm is carrying your clothes to the bathroom and back and changing into your fresh clothes without making them wet or wrinkled. Of course, you cannot walk around in your dorm corridors bare-skinned with a sheet of the towel wrapped around your waist. You can make things so much easier for you by investing in a good bathrobe. A good quality bathrobe will not only go a long way but will spare you from the hassle of carrying your clothes to the bathroom. Get a long-length microfleece robe, since it is easy to maintain and you can wear them to the shower and back and can change into your new clothes in your room.

Spa Slippers

Just like it is annoying to take your clothes to a wet, communal bathroom, the same applies to your slippers. Wearing your regular sandals to the damp shower and then using the same pair in your room can make both the bathroom and your room a real mess. Invest in a pair of Spa slippers and wear them around on your bath trips. They do not get messy and get dried easily when wet. You can easily find a reasonably priced pair on online stores.
