With summer coming to an end, but many of us not really ready, it’s fun to hold on to some cool stuff from the warmer months. Living in the Southwest, our weather doesn’t change too drastically until the later months. So, it’s nice to have a sweet, cool treat that is still healthy and tasty. And since Halloween is right around the corner, it’s a relief to have some sweet fresh stuff that isn’t full of sugar. I had the chance to use the Magic Chef Ice Maker and was so excited with all the different uses I had for it. I decided to make a Sweet & Spooky Smoothie with Magic Chef’s Ice Maker and made with fresh fruits and vegetables.
The Sweet & Spooky Smoothie is inspired by Halloween and the colors of most decorations. The great thing about this smoothie is you can use any kind of fruits or vegetables you want. Here’s what I used and how I threw it together. Super easy and super yummy!
Here’s what you’ll need:
Orange layer:
½ Cup chopped carrots
1 Cup orange slices
½ Cup Orange juice
1/2 Cup milk (or low fat yogurt)
2 Tbsp Honey (or sugar, optional)
1 Cup ice from your Magic Chef Ice Maker
Green Layer
1 Cup Fresh Spinach
3 Kiwis, peeled whole
½ Cup milk (or low fat yogurt)
4 Tbsp Honey (or sugar)
1 Cup ice from your Magic Chef Ice Maker
Purple Layer
1/2 Cup Blueberries
1/2 Cup Raspberries
1/2 Cup Blackberries
½ Cup Milk (or low fat yogurt)
2 Tbsp Honey (or sugar)
1 Cup ice from your Magic Chef Ice Maker
Now, remember I used these fruits and vegetables because of their great flavor and the bright colors. You can layer any kind you want and sweeten it as much or as little as you like. These layers are crisp, fresh, and tart with a hint of sweetness from the honey. If you want to thicken it up, then opt for yogurt of your choice. The Magic Chef Ice Maker worked perfectly because it would make a couple cycles of ice while I prepared each layer, just in time to blend!
Here’s what you’ll do:
- For the Purple layer, combine all ingredients in a smoothie blender and mix until consistency is thick, but not lumpy. Taste and add honey if needed.
- Pour mixture to fill 1/3 of a large glass and place in the freezer.
- For Green layer, combine all ingredients in a smoothie blender, mix until consistency is thick but not lumpy. Taste and add honey if needed.
- Take purple layer out of freeze and add Green layer until 2/3 full and return to the freezer.
- For Orange layer, combine all ingredients in a smoothie blender, mix thoroughly until consistency is thick, but not lumpy. Taste and add honey if needed.
- Remove previous layers from freezer and top off with the orange layer
** Note, if you want to add whipped topping and a berry or cherry, DO IT! You are the smoothie master!

This Sweet & Spooky Smoothie is great for a morning breakfast because it is full of fresh food that gives you a huge energy boost that will last hours. It isn’t too sweet and the light use of milk (or yogurt) doesn’t weigh your tummy down. It is a great and fun after school snack for the kids too! I taped on a pair of cute googly eyes to add some personality.
The Magic Chef Ice Maker was a great tool to use in making the different mixes. I received this from Magic Chef and I thought it would be a great addition to our kitchen. It is also a life saver when entertaining or during parties. The Ice Maker only takes a few minutes to make ice and it can run 24 hours and make up to 27 lbs of ice!
Here are some other great qualities of the Magic Chef Ice Maker, aside from being and awesome smoothie making partner:
- Makes 9 ice cubes per cycle
- Makes 2 sizes of ice cubes
- See through top panel so you can see levels without opening
- Easy (and I mean easy) touch control panel
- Indicator lights to notify if water or ice levels need attention
- Comes with an adorable and useful ice scoop
I used the Magic Chef Ice Maker for a couple of weeks and then I heard a friend of mine was in need. Her refrigerator’s ice machine had gone kaput and she had limited space in her freezer for ice trays or bagged ice. She hosts a lot of parties and always has people over for dinner and drinks, so I let her have it. She gets so much use out of it and since it runs 24 hours and can be set out of the way on the counter, she never runs out of ice. Did I mention she has an ice-chewing obsession too? So, you see her dilemma and the answer to her prayers with the Magic Chef Countertop Ice Maker!
