I can remember being a young girl and listening to my mom talks about the importance of saving money. Of course, we were not well off so saving money wasn’t easy for my parents, yet they did what they could, and if anyone could stretch a dime into a dollar, it was my mother. I guess when it comes to saving money I learned from the best. However, it took me a while to realize how lucky I was to have learned how to save money at such an early age until I married my husband. He was horrible at spending money and didn’t understand my need to save. At the end of the day, we compromised, and things have worked great, but when a big purchase comes up, we both know we have to buckle down on the savings.
Tips To Help You Save Money In 2016
Since we don’t live in the same world we did when I was younger I’m always looking for new ways to save money, here are a few things I do to save my family money.
1.) Goals – Before you start saving make sure you have goals that you want to meet. In my opinion, you are more likely to save money if you are saving for a particular reason.
2.) Get organized & budget – First I think it’s important to get your finances organized. Make sure your checkbook balances and that you know where everything is at. You’ll also want to figure out just how much money you’ll need each month for things like – bills, food, personal products, etc. This will give you a good starting point. You’ll know just how much you can save each month.
3.) Shop Online – I do a lot of my shopping online because in most cases I can score a better deal online because retailers need to be more competitive than in this little New Mexico town I call home.
4.) Take advantage of price comparison apps – There are plenty of great price comparison apps out there be sure to download one and give it a try to help you get the most out of your hard earned money.
5.) Use sites that offer cash back – I currently use Ebates and with every purchase I make I get a certain percent back if I visit the website before making the purchase. Not a bad deal, I’ve gotten some pretty decent sized checks back from Ebates. So be sure to check it out you can save big money there for sure if you shop online.
6.) Browser extensions – There are some great browser extensions out there to help you save some money, take advantage of them. I know Ebates has a browser extension, I use it, and it lets me find out when I’m shopping at a store I could save money at.
7.) Eat at home – if you spend a lot of time eating out you are likely spending a lot of cash too. Try eating at home, taking your lunch to work, and spending less time and money on eating out.
8.) Cut monthly bills – You can totally cut your monthly bills by getting rid things you do not need, downsizing things you are not using, or making sure your home is energy efficient. You don’t need to hire anyone you can check yourself with Homeselfe.
Homeselfe is an easy to use and convenient app you can get on your Android Device or iOS device. With Homeselfe, you can easily do a home energy audit to help assess the different ways you can save money in your home. How cool is that? You can now save money on energy expenses with the Homeselfe app, and it only takes about 10 minutes to get your report as to how energy efficient your home is and different things you can do to save money.
Using Homeselfe is as easy as one two three! I’m not even kidding, check it out.
1.) Take your Homeselfe which only takes about five minutes.
2.) Review your report for FREE!

I recently got my free report, which is the above image. My house is “good” but there are areas we can improve and save money that had not occurred to me before. The app is great because it gives you money saving tips and energy rebates. It can also connect you with local contacts who can help make your home more energy efficient so you can save money. I defently suggest downloading Homeselfe to see if there are ways you can save money in 2016!
Homeselfe has worked in partnership with local, state, and the nation’s largest public utilities to develop a tool that is easy to use, free, and gets results for your home—and your wallet.
With a patent pending technology in the form of a free app, Homeselfe allows you to create a digital mock up of your home with a simple questionnaire you can answer at your own pace. Once your Homeselfe is complete, you’ll instantly receive a free, easy-to-read report that provides a clear picture of your home’s energy efficiency, where you need to improve, and what upgrades take priority.
Homeselfe also helps you take action. It connects you with qualified local contractors, and provide information on special offers and rebates provided by your local government, so you can quickly earn money back on your upgrades, and start reaping the long-term benefits sooner.

I love getting advice and seeing how other people manage their finances
Every few months, our utility sends us a notice comparing our house efficiency compared to other houses in our area. We’re always much higher but I’m not sure where it’s all coming from. It sounds like Homeselfe will help me see where I’m losing energy from! Besides, entering for $250 doesn’t hurt either. 🙂
