It’s summer, and that means preparing for your summer road trip. Whether you are hitting the road with the family, friends or flying solo, there are several things you’ll want to check on your car regardless of how far you’re driving. Here are a few tips to ensure your vehicle is prepared for your summer travels.
10 Tips for Preparing for Your Summer Road Trip
Here are 10 tips to help you in preparing for your summer road trip.
- Prepare – Make sure you’re prepared with an emergency kit, flashlight, basic tools, blankets to keep warm, water, food, and anything else you might need if you by chance have to spend the night in the car. It’s better to be prepared and not need these things than it is to need them and not have them.
- Cell phones & chargers – Be prepared with a way to charge your phone in the vehicle as well as extra charged portable power banks in case you need them.
- Navigation – If you have a smartphone you should be okay but you’ll want to consider a navigation system.
- Map – You can never be too careful, and they don’t take up much room. Pack a small map in the glove box in case you’re not able to use your GPS.
- Tools – Check to make sure you have tools to change a tire – spare tire, jack, wheel wrench, etc.
- Prepare for who you’re traveling with – Consider who you’ll be traveling with and what they will need. If you’re traveling with kids, you’ll want to bring along drinks, snacks, music, games, and things to keep them busy.
- Timing – Depending upon who you’re traveling with it might be wiser to drive at night. We typically travel at night when the kids are with us, because it’s easier on them and us. They’ll sleep through most of the trip, which means fewer stops and asking 100 times if we are there yet, lol.
- Checkup – You’ll want to ensure your vehicle is running correctly, wipers are in tip top shape, and all your fluid levels are topped off. Be sure your vehicle is ready for your road trip by getting a checkup before you head out.
- Battery – You’ll want to make certain before you head out that your battery is staying charged the way it should and all terminals are clean.
- Tires – One of the most important things you can do is make sure you have good tires when preparing for your summer road trip. It will help keep you and your loved ones safer this summer. Don’t leave home without making certain your tires are in tip-top shape.
