I can’t say which is why I’m going to share a few reasons with you to get your water tested.
How Safe If Your Water? HBBF.org is Helping Those In Need With Water Testing Kits! Get Yours Before it’s gone!
The fabulous people at HBBF.org understand that many of us are concerned about our water which is why they wanted to make sure everyone knows where they can get a Lead in Water Action Kit. Which is why they are offering 1,000 affordable kits, but only until supplies last.
The test currently costs the lovely people from Healthy Babies Bright Futures $65 so 1,000 kits is all they can do at the moment. They are planning to offer more when funding is available, and you can help by leaving a donation which will contribute to purchase another kit.
Healthy Babies Bright Futures goal it to reach those who are at risk – women who are currently pregnant or trying to conceive, families with children under the age of 2, and residents in low-income communities with many sources of lead exposure. So please be considerate when donating to cover the cost of another kit. Together we can do amazing things.
Whare symptoms of lead poisoning?
Serious lead poisoning causes major symptoms such as vomiting, cramps, fatigue, and weight loss but intense lead poisoning is rare in the United States. Less severe exposure often doesn’t have any symptoms. See lead damages the developing brain and is harmful in any amount. Exposure is most damaging to unborn babies and young children.
What happens if they are exposed to lead and I don’t know?
I don’t want to scare anyone, but children who are exposed to lead can face behavior problems, and it can even reduce their intelligence.
Why do I need to worry about lead in my tap water?
As you may know, water is usually free of lead but on its way to your house it can get the lead in it from pipes and fixtures. If you live in an older home and city, you may be at risk of lead in your water. However, it can happen if you live in a newer home too. You can get lead in your water from lead service lines, lead solder, faucets, and the only way to know for sure is to get a water testing kit.
What about my kids school?
Unless the school is testing the water, you won’t know, and it can have the same impact on a school as a home. The parts and pipes in drinking fountains are often sources of lead. Did you know Jersey City testing in 2012 and 2013 and found high lead in one of every six school fountains? They even found amounts that exceeded the federal action limit for lead by 800 times according to HBBF.org.
Should I drink bottled water?
You might not want to hear this but sometimes bottled water is nothing more than tap water so switching to bottled water would depends on the brands online water quality report. If you are considering bottled water be sure to check the online quality report first, if you can find one.
How do I use the water testing kit?
It’s as easy as 1 – 2 – 3 I guess you could say! Seriously, it is checked it out.
- Collect tap water. You will need three samples, and the kid will include step by step directions. You’ll want to collect the three tap water samples from your house in a few minutes. If there is lead found the tests will help to pinpoint where the source may be so they can help to give you customized solutions.
- Send off your water sample using the prepaid return shipping label and the box you will find included with your kit and send your samples to the experts over at Virginia Tech. You can rest assured that the sample and lab analysis follow EPA protocols for lead in water testing.
- Know your water results and take necessary actions. Hopefully, none of us have anything to worry about as far as lead in our water goes but it’s better to be safe than sorry. You should get your results within 30 days if there is any lead in your water you’ll find steps you can take to reduce your family’s risk of lead exposure.

Jenn — Thank you for helping get the word out about Healthy Babies Bright Futures and our lead in water test kit. It’s so important to protect babies from exposures to toxic chemicals during the first 1000 days of development. And there’s so much we can do to help babies thrive.
After what happened in Michigan I think it’s incredibly important to have your water tested if possible. Also I still think it’s good to use a filter, even if it is ranked as good quality.
