Reasons I’m Glad My Daughter Has a Smartphone

Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone could get together during the holidays?  We always do our best to get everyone together, but it always fails someone can’t make it for some reason.  Can you believe that this year it was my family?  On the day we were supposed to leave, a huge snowstorm rolled in and dumped almost 2 feet of snow on the ground.  This year, Mother Nature wanted us to stay put and I’m not about to argue with that much snow on the ground, especially with my kids in the car.

Can you believe the kids are already on their Christmas break?  Where does the time go? It seems like just yesterday the kids were excited about going back to school, I was thinking, and Vayda was glowing because she got a new smartphone to start the year out on the right foot.  I wanted to give her something I knew would motivate her.  I’ve tried all sorts of different ways to keep kids motivated to learn in school.  Having something to work for has helped Vayda find motivation and find a part of her she didn’t know was there.  She is working hard and doing fabulous.  I was excited to get everyone out of town for the holidays but not nearly as excited as Vayda.  As soon as Christmas break started, she and her cousins were on the phone making plans for their trip to grandmas and grandpas house.  Thank goodness for unlimited talk with , lol.

Vayda and I both love her smartphone and wireless provider, probably for different reasons that don’t matter as long as we are both happy.

• Talk as much as you like without going over – Unlimited minutes means Vayda can talk to her cousins over the Christmas break to make plans, chat or just because you’re bored.

• No contract – Yepie, I love not having a contract for Vayda’s phone. I hope I never have to take it from her, but it does feel good knowing I have control.

• Just a tip if you are considering a phone for your child – DON’T GO WITH A CONTRACT! When Catie got her first phone, I didn’t think things through and got her a phone with a two-year contract. She got into a lot of trouble and her father, and I took her phone away for over a year. I will never sign another contract for one of my kid’s phones again. Their phone is the last thing they want to be taken away when they are in trouble, and it’s the first thing I take when they are in trouble, lol.

• Learning – Vayda and I both enjoy so many of the educational apps that have helped her with math this year. There are times when I try to help Vayda, but I can tell she doesn’t understand the way I am explaining it to her, so we do the next best thing and pull up an app that helps her when I’m only confusing her.

• You’ll need apps for your new phone right – Great because there are TONS of great apps you can download to your phone.

I have not had to get on to her about feeding the dogs in months. She also used her calendar to track the days until we went to see grandma and grandpa.
