Pets really are one of the best gifts we can have. Dogs are man’s best friend, cats are on every corner of the internet and every other furry friend brings love and something special to our hearts and home.
While you may not dive into deep conversations or talk about your days together, there are still plenty of other fun activities you two can do together to bond and create long-lasting memories.
Take a Vacation
Your home may have that certain pet smell that’s so hard to get rid of. What’s the best way to get rid of that pet smell? Take the pet out of the house and into your car of course! Now you’ll just have to figure out how to get that pet smell out of your car.
Your vacation doesn’t have to be a cross country trip crossing state lines, but it could just be an hour drive to a national park or new area to get some fresh air and run around.
If you’re thinking about making a vacation a multi-day thing, there are plenty of pet-friendly hotels scattered around the country. You may receive a chocolate on your pillow in the morning and they could receive a nice treat.
Flying on a plane? Don’t be that person and claim your pet as an emotional support animal unless you actually need one. Find a good cage or way to transport them safe and legally.

Celebrate their Birthday
Even though you may not know the exact date of your pet’s birthday, you can always just assume day you bought or adopted them to be their birthday.
There are plenty of pet bakeries out and about that specialize in making treats for different types of animals. The best part is they’re going to be appreciative of whatever you got them. There will be no pouty faces because they wanted a double-fudge ice cream cake instead.
You’ll want to double check the ingredients in case your animal is allergic to anything or you have them on a specific diet.
Start an Exercise Routine
If you’ve got a dog, you’re well accustomed to taking them on walks throughout the day. Have you ever thought about upping that walk to a run?
If you’ve got an exercise routine, there’s no reason why you can’t bring your pet with you. It could be a simple hour walk through the neighborhood every day or a run where they can come with you.
If you’ve got an inside animal, you can always set up a play area for them to make sure they’re moving on a regular basis instead of being a couch potato all day. If you have a cat, make sure and spend time playing with it.
Just be sure to have a proper leash secured in case they catch a squirrel or other small animal out of the corner of their eye.
If you’re not a runner, doga and cat yoga are slowly sleeping the nation.
Dress Up
If you’re a Modern Family fan, you probably remember the early seasons where Cam was constantly dressing up his daughter Lily in various costumes. If you’ve got a passion for the flair, you can do the same. If you don’t, you can always opt for something classy but not as flashy.
It’s a great way for your children to interact with your pet, assuming your pet is patient enough. You can teach your children about being gentle and how to have fun with your pet as well.
Just remember to reward them after you’ve made them endure a photo session with a nice treat or two. Who knows? One day, you might become Insta-famous!
Make a Puzzle
Fortunately, this doesn’t involve finding a picture and cutting it up into perfect pieces to make sure they all fit together. That would be horribly tedious.
Instead, you could make a maze of sorts for them and see if they can follow it through for the treat at the end. If you’re outside, it could be a fun obstacle course or challenging area. Pets are smarter than you may think, so now is the time to realize their full potential!
