Oh, the joys of potty training. I’m going to be honest; potty training wasn’t difficult for me. My kids pretty much did it all themselves. I know all children are different, but I think we have to wait until they are totally ready, they know what they want and when they’re ready they’ll let you know. Now, I’m not saying it’s not a great idea to get them started by showing them what everything is, so they understand what it is and what they are supposed to do with it when they are ready to start potty training.
5 Things Parents Need Prepare Children for Potty Training
Here are a few things parent are going to need to help prepare their children for the bit potty training milestone.
1.) Potty chair – I have mixed feelings about the potty chair., I wasn’t going to list it, but I know many children who use it and love it. Plus, when I think about it all my kids started there, they didn’t use it once they started potty training, but it’s where they would sit with mom or dad while they went potty. Even though they wanted to use the big boy/girl potty when they started, it’s the potty chair that taught them how the big potty works and what they are supposed to do. I know it had to have helped prepare them for their journey down potty training lane.
2.) Books with interesting pictures. Books about potty training with interesting pictures are a HUGE PLUS – You can never go wrong with books. I had a few in the bathroom as well as some about potty training. Make sure you have books with great animation about the potty training they’ll love it. Plus it can help keep them occupied when they start their potty training journey.
3.) Potty Training Paper & A Lot of It, and NOT JUST ANY POTTY PAPER WILL DO – Nobody wants to use toilet paper that is dry, crunchy or absorbent. Not only is it not comfortable, it’s doesn’t leave anyone feeling as clean as they would if they’d used a high quality toilet paper like, Charmin Ultra Soft toilet paper. I don’t know about you but if I am not camping in the fall and stuck without toilet paper I don’t want to use a crunchy leaf because it doesn’t get the job done, AT ALL, and it’s harder to get the job done even has an adult. NO crunchy leaf toilet paper for anyone, especially when there is potty training going on. You’ll want and need high quality, soft and ABSORBANT toilet and your child will appreciate it.
Charmin Ultra Soft toilet paper is super soft and absorbent, as a matter of fact you can actually see the comfort cushions on the toilet paper and use up to 4x less. Charmin Ultra Soft toilet paper is not just for potty training either, it’s for everyone. It’s an excellent band of toilet paper, high quality, soft and absorbent just the way you want it and more. Lucky for us we can grab Charmin Ultra Soft from Sam’s Club. It recently resurfaced and were around for a limited time, AND it even comes with ONE THOUSAND (1,000) free extra sheets in every pack. I already stocked up on Charmin Ultra Soft toilet paper because that softness isn’t only good for little bottoms, it’s good for moms bottoms too lol.

4.) Don’t push your child to potty train, compare your child to another who’s older and potty trained. Allow them to lead you and support them – All of my kids were super easy to potty train. When I had Mattie, I tried to push her to potty train when I thought she was ready, which only resulted in me calling my mom asking her what the secret was and her telling me to step back and let her do her thing and show me when he is ready.
Well once again, MOM IS RIGHT! I have learned to let them lead the way and just be there to support them along the way. Don’t be in a hurry for them to potty train. I know diapers get old, but remember this is the only time they will be the age they are. Tomorrow they will be older, it’s a new day and who knows what they are going to learn tomorrow. Stay calm, remember all children are the same and cannot be held o the same expectations. They’ll let you know when they are ready!
5.) Technology – My two youngest responded well using apps. There are a few great potty training apps out there my children enjoyed. They cost no more than $3, and if your child enjoys playing on your smartphone or tablet, it might be something to consider. Just make sure that you play them for a bit yourself to see if they are appropriate. I think we all explain certain things differently so our opinion of what is or isn’t appropriate will often be different. Check them out see if you can find an app that helps your little one with potty training.
