7 Ways to Make Chores Fun for Everyone

by Jenn Brockman
  • Chores. This word usually sends off an alarm for kids and adults. It isn’t something that most people enjoy doing, but it has to be done. Our home is a loving, caring, and warm home. It’s also a very lively home, with 4 kids and 3 adults. So, as you could imagine, it gets messy quickly and frequently. We got to try out the new Eureka Brushroll Clean bagless upright vacuum and I have to beg to use it because its popularity in our home. Aside from the Eureka vacuum, the other chores are a little more difficult to get done. We have to get creative, try these  7 ways to make chores fun for everyone.

1.) Boogie Time

Cleaning can be made into a dance party with the right tunes. Put on some upbeat music and start moving to the beat while dusting, sweeping, and mopping. I like to grab my steam mop and jam a guitar solo. When it’s time to vacuum, just throw on some headphones and jam with the vacuum like it’s a dance partner. The Eureka Brushroll Clean is versatile and easy to maneuver, so doing a tango with our Eureka can put some spunk into cleaning for even the younger of the kids.

2.) Chance Chores

In our home, assigning chores turns into a debate. “It’s too hard, she doesn’t have to do near as much as me!” I’m sure you’ve heard something along those lines in your home also. To make it “fair”, grab some dice and roll for chores. Assign a chore to numbers 1-6 and have everyone roll for a chore. They can’t argue fairness because it’s all random. (Tip: Limit “do-overs” to avoid a headache, just trust me. The girls argue over who gets to vacuum the living room so they can use the hoses and tools on everything they can.

3.) Testing Time

It’s always fun to pretend and cleaning is a great time to throw it in. When you’re cleaning with your little ones, pretend that you are testers and trying to determine the best way to clean or what product works best. Personally, I like to pretend I’m introducing Eureka Brushroll Clean for the first time and am testing the Brushroll Clean Technology that removes tangled fur, dirt, and debris by just touching a button.

4.) How-to-do

Another great pretend game that you can play while your cleaning, which I know my nieces and nephews love, is to make a “How-to” video. They are the stars, you can be the camera man, and their job is to show the viewers exactly how to clean their room, dust the shelves, or vacuum the floor. Give them some pointers and be the director too. They can show off the Suction Seal Technology on the Eureka vacuum or the automatic cord they love so much while vacuuming the living room!

5.) Game Time

A great way to motivate kids of all ages is to create a game out of cleaning. One thing we do is to use some tape and put squares on the floor. Next, each kid has a broom and they have sweep to see who can get the most in their square. If sweeping isn’t an option, the Eureka Brushroll Clean works great on hard floors. The Suction Seal concentrates airflow keeps debris from spewing out. Compete with your little ones; set a timer to see who clean the most in an allotted time. They’ll race for bragging rights from beating you and an extra scoop of ice cream after dinner!

6.) Prize Time

Another great way to get kids excited about cleaning is offering positive reinforcement and REWARDS. Instead of denoting chores to each child, make a list of all the chores they are able to do and assign rewards for each one. You could use money as a motivator, but our house calls for more creative prizes. For example, a reward for taking out the trash is an extra half hour at bed time or after someone sweeps and mops, they can watch their favorite movie that night. It keeps them focused and teaches them the value of working for something.

7.) Toss Time

When my brother and I shared a room, we had a game we played when we had to clean our room. Whether we had to pick up our toys or get our laundry together, we would play C-L-E-A-N. It’s kinda like H-O-R-S-E, just with clothes or toys instead of a ball and a hamper or toy box as a basket. We would take turns taking shots with our clothes or toys and play until our room was picked up or we ran out of things to toss.

Cleaning our house takes some time and requires diligent upkeep. But, when the whole family pitches in, it makes chores a lot easier. Making the chores fun adds some entertainment and makes it feel less less like work. Using our Eureka Brushroll Clean upright vacuum is a treat in itself for a number of reasons.

Vacuum Eureka

♥ The kids like to use it because it’s light and easy to maneuver.
♥ It has all sorts of extensions and tools the children love to try out on all different surfaces.
♥ There is no bag to change so it makes it easy for them to empty the debris into the trash bin.
♥ The cord automatically recoils, so the kids have fun pulling it out and pushing the button to watch it zoom back in.

Vacuum Suction Seal

When I was a kid, even now as an “adult”, I loved to vacuum. I would get a sense of accomplishment just from the sound of things being sucked up. Strange to some, but I’m pretty sure many of you out there can relate. I know cleaning with the kids, trying out all games and make believe scenarios helps both of us to forget we’re doing chores for the time being.

Vacuum Upright

The Eureka Brushroll Clean upright vacuum makes chores easy and thorough. It’s a great way to engage our imagination, hone our coordination, and get our blood flowing. What are some ways or tricks that you use to get everyone to pitch in around the house?

I have been teaching my Granddaughter how to do chores for a while. She can dust, pick up, do a little mopping, and wash none glass dishes. She is my little helper and it works as long as Gramma is in the same room.

If you can trick kids into cleaning and think it’s fun send them over here! You have some good ideas. You might as well try to make it fun, the chores have to get done.
