Keeping a clean house is a big job and can take quite a bit of work. It sometimes takes a day or two to get everything vacuumed, swept, disinfected, dusted, and streak-free. But if we get everyone involved and take small steps each day, then cleaning doesn’t have to be a huge event. Getting certain habits formed for everyone each day can take the strain off cleaning the house and can sometimes make it fun. Here are 5 easy tips to keep a cleaner home using the new Dyson V6 Slim.
1.) Get the kids involved
In our home, the brunt of the messes come from the kids. They are always playing, eating, and doing something that tends to leave a mess behind. So, to make it easier, we teach them the responsibility of cleaning up after themselves, and we make a game out of it. One way we manage that is to make a great game out of sweeping. Using some tape, mark out squares on the hard floors that need to be swept. Now, have each child start sweeping up the stuff on the floor.
Whoever sweeps up the most and has the largest pile wins some sort of prize. Maybe they’ll win a couple dollars or a cup of ice cream, but be sure to make it desireable. You’ll be surprised at what some motivation and competition can accomplish among little ones!
2.) Keep plenty of trash bins
In our household, one issue we have is trash being left on the tables or floors. Sometimes we are just too lazy to walk all the way to the kitchen to throw something away. It’s terrible, I know, but it’s a harsh reality. So, to remedy this, we make sure we have plenty of trash bins in each living space. The kitchen has three bins, the living room has one, there is another in the den, and you get the point.
Keeping a bin nearby in each room is a great way to ensure that trash ends up in the bin and not on the floor or behind the couch. And, if you want to add a little fun, start recycling and have the kids help separate the plastics, papers, cans, and such to see who can fill their bin fastest.
3.) Never walk around empty-handed
We have a very busy home, and with the kids and adults always coming and going, it gets to be a bother keeping everything clean and organized. It’s a good idea that I grab something that is out of place every time I walk through a room and put it back where it belongs. It really helps keep things in order if I grab an item and put it away every time I see it.
Putting things away as you see them really helps to keep things off the floor and less likely to build up and become an ordeal to get clean. It only takes everyone doing this each time they walk into a room to keep it clean. Kids can take their toys, us adults can grab a glass that got left behind, and we all can grab a wrapper or piece of trash that was forgotten about or missed the bin. Teamwork is the best way to keep the home clean and organized.
4.) Clean as you go
I am a bit of a clean freak, and like everyone else, I like a tidy house. We have 7 people, young and old, living in our home, and there is always something to be cleaned. So, instead of using the dishwasher as my only means of cleaning our plates and cups, I do small loads of dishes by hand.
It keeps the pots and pans from piling up and helps keep the kitchen sink open for hand washing and the like. Also, I like to carry a damp paper towel or cleaning rag with me and make a sweep of the house, wiping up any small spills or dust bunnies that get caught behind the television. Just being aware of everything as you go along with your normal day-to-day routine helps keep the messes to a minimum.
5.) Using my Dyson V6 Slim
One thing that I honestly dread is vacuuming. Mostly because all the vacuums I have had before have been bulky, heavy, and restricted by an annoying cord. But, with the Dyson V6 Slim, it makes vacuuming so much easier and actually kind of fun.
It’s light and easy to use in hard-to-reach areas. I don’t have to break my back trying to reach behind the couch or under the fridge. And, since it has such great suction for 20 minutes, I’m not having to sweep up any left-over dust in the corners. The Dyson takes care of it with a single once-over. Emptying the dust and particle receptacle is super easy. It clicks open with just a touch of a button and dumps out super fast without my hands getting dirty.
I don’t have to worry about sucking up any dirt that fell out when I was emptying the receptacle, either. The Dyson V6 Slim stays on the charger, which is small and easy to keep out of the way because I just mounted it on the wall, and I can grab it for any small job while I clean as I go. It works great on big jobs too, and it is really an easy tool to keep my floor clean and safe from any sharp stickers that tend to find their way inside.
Another great advantage of the Dyson V6 Slim is that the kids can use it. The Dyson V6 Slim is light enough that the little ones can vacuum with it, and they actually have fun doing it. Of course, we have to remind them to stay away from large and dangerous objects, but they actually have fun sucking up the little messes that they make. It lasts for 20 minutes without losing suction, and it charges quickly too. I really enjoy vacuuming with it because of its versatility, lightweight, and cleaning power, plus keeping my hands clean when I empty the receptacle is a huge plus for me.
Keeping a tidy house does take some work, and there is always going to be a mess following you after you clean. But if we stay diligent with these tips, then a hard-core cleaning day will be few and far between. Because I believe that spring cleaning should be kept for springtime, not every Sunday, right?
