Mornings are beautiful and renewing moments in time. The way we start our mornings sets the tone for the remainder of our day.  A positive attitude is an important thing to have to keep our days productive and energetic. I have pretty busy days with family, meetings, group classes and everyday stressors. I know how important it is to start my days off right, especially with a wholesome breakfast like a bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats. Here are some other ways I start my day that get me ready to face the world each morning.

1) Stretch and Yoga

Waking in the morning, stiffness is often an issue. I take ten minutes first thing to get much stretching in. It helps to open up the lungs and allows the muscles to use that oxygen to relieve soreness. After waking up and stretching I practice some yoga. There are many different levels and poses that target all parts of the body. I enjoy yoga that focuses on breathing and running. There are also yoga poses for mornings, core strength and general breathing techniques. After 20-25 minutes of yoga, I am more alert and my body is nimble and energized.

2) Run or walk

Mornings are crisp and cool and the perfect time for a revitalizing walk or run. Whether you are a marathoner or a novice, running helps to open your lungs and raises your heart rate which in turn helps circulation throughout the body. Along with the physical benefits, running can also be mentally rewarding as well. When I run, I put some music on and let my mind just wanderand take a break from worry and stress that life can bring.

3) Meditation and Positive Affirmations

When we first awake, the last thing we need is negativity because it can ruin the rest of the day. Telling ourselves something positive each morning allows us to focus on our good traits and disregard all the negative. I tell myself things like, “I love you, I really do,” and “Today I will make a difference.” Also, taking time to quiet the mind and meditate relieves stress and relaxes the body. I focus on my breathing, inhaling positive energy and exhaling all the negative. Visualizing bad things leaving the body truly makes a difference and I can feel it during the rest of my day.

4) Plan Your Day

Each day holds new challenges and events we have to face. It is important to take time to plan our day and make a schedule. Be sure to give yourself time to complete tasks and try not to over extend yourself. I have noticed that planning out my day lessens a lot of the pressure I feel over the tasks I have to complete. I also realize that each day also throws some curve balls, so we have to give ourselves a break if something doesn’t happen as we planned. Shake it off and move on to the things we do have the ability to complete.

5) Wholesome Breakfast

We have all heard it before: “breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” Well, it definitely rings true for most of us. Our breakfast gives us the energy we need to tackle the day’s demands. I love Post Cereals like Honey Bunches of Oats with Vanilla Bunches. They have a variety of different flavors and they are all a wholesome and tasty breakfast in the morning. Honey Bunches of Oats has 4 grams of fiber that fills you up and helps maintain digestive health. It also has iron, folic acid, Vitamin A and other important nutrients that our bodies need. With 33 grams of whole grains per serving it provides about 2/3 of our suggested whole grain intake. All that goodness in such a flavorful cereal makes it easy to have a wholesome breakfast and  get the day started off right.
