7 Tips To Help You Comfort a Fussy Baby

by Jenn Brockman

Being mommy isn’t an easy job, especially if you are a new mom trying to comfort a fussy baby for the first time.  Not to mention the fact that it’s exhausting at times and now and then it can get frustrating.  However, don’t let that scare you because it only takes one look into those beautiful eyes to make it all worth it.

Becoming a mom changes your whole life, and you’ll be a new person.  I like to think to become a mom made me a better, more grown-up version of me.  That doesn’t mean I wasn’t scared when they sent me home with this new baby I was responsible not only for caring for but doing everything I could to make sure she got the best out of life.  I was so scared, I didn’t want my mom to go home, my husband to go back to work, and I didn’t want to be left alone to care for the baby.  Not because I didn’t want to but because I didn’t know how and I didn’t want to hurt her.  Well, good news is that mommy gear kicks in quicker than many of us realize and everything will be okay, just trust yourself a little.

Tips To Help You Comfort a Fussy Baby
7 Tips To Help You Comfort a Fussy Baby

Babies get fussy for some reasons, but nobody knows your child like you do.  Here are few tips to help you soothe your little one if they get fussy.

1.) Trust your instincts – Even if you are a new mommy remember you now have mommy instincts and can likely pick up on things other may miss when it comes to your child.  Trust your instinct.

2.) Don’t be scared to try new things – Even though your baby is little, don’t be afraid to try new things.  You never know they might not enjoy being put down for a nap in their swing.  They may very well prefer their crib.  Don’t be afraid to try new things, within reason of course.  You don’t want to try giving a new born baby cereal.

3.) Swaddling – You may already know that swaddling is a great way to soothe a fussy baby.  Well, all the babies I have ever been around having liked being wrapped up in a swaddling blanket because it’s somewhat like the womb, so it’s comforting.

4.) White noise – Babies often need some white noise.  It makes sense, considering they heard noise nonstop in the womb.

5.) Walking – Sometimes just walking around the room with the baby can help comfort them.  My nephew will start to cry the second you sit down because he wants to be up and walking around.  I guess I can’t blame the little guy, if I couldn’t walk and was experinaceing the world for I don’t think I’d want to sit either.  Mattie also enjoyed walking around all the time, it was an almost certain way to get her to stop crying.

6.) Bouncing – Every child in our family has loved to bounce! Whether it’s bouncing them with your arms or doing what my brother does and using bit workout ball to sit on so you can get some extra bounce in lol.  My nephew loves it.

7.)  Feeding challenges – It happens, and you’re not alone.  There are plenty of moms out there experiencing or have experienced feeding challenges as well, and they can be worked through with the right food for baby.  So if you are breastfeeding you may want to consider changing your diet up a tad and if bottle feeding you may consider trying a new formula like Bloom & Blossom Ultra Gentle Infant Formula.

Bloom & Blossom even have some great comfort food recipes for mom on their website here.  Yes, everything from Healthy Fettuccine Alfredo and Baked Fish & Chips to Lighter Chicken and Biscuits and Light Cherry Cheesecake which is great for baby if you’re nursing.  They will get some comfort food too.  So what about the babies who are bottle feed?  If you are looking for a comfort food for baby that’s easy on their tummies there is Bloom & Blossom.

So how can one get comfort foods to their little guy or gal who is bottle feed?  With Bloom & Blossom

Bloom & Blossom Ultra Gentle Formula can help you address several common feeding problems such as crying, gas, and fussiness thanks these three special features:

  • 100% Partially Hydrolysed Whey Protein – It contains proteins that are easy to digest because they are partially broken down to help baby avoid digestive problems.
  • Low Lactose Formula – The Ultra Gentle formula contains 95% less lactose than routine, milk-based infant formulas out there which are for babies who might be sensitive to lactose.
  • Prebiotics – Everyone needs probiotics; they are dietary fibers that work to nourish the good bacteria in our gut.  Bloom & Blossom Ultra Gentle understands that prebiotics may support your baby’s immune system as well as their digestive health, so they made sure to include prebiotics in their formula.

Choosing the right food can play a significant part in helping you comfort baby.  It can mean fewer feedings that are fussy and uncomfortable moments for a child which means more quality time for the both of you.

I think the best way for us to comfort a fussy baby is first to find out why they are crying.  Babies typically cry because something is wrong.  They might be uncomfortable, need a diaper change, sleepy, want to be doing something else, or hungry and, of course, babies need to be comforted.  Even as an adult I need to be comforted and my mom does it best.

Some people think infants smile when they have gas; others know better. If you suspect your baby is crying from gas pain:

lay him down across your knees and gently rub his back
bicycle his legs while he lies on his back
talk to your doctor about using infant gas drops

My daughter had to go on soy formula back before I even knew it existed so I can relate to any parent who’s baby isn’t getting the best formula for their digestion. This sounds like a great product.

Thanks for a chance at the giveaway!
