23 Things To Do With Your Teen Daughter

by Jenn

Spending time with your daughter is important, but searching for things to do with your teen daughter can be a little more difficult.  Catie and I do a lot together, and I feel truly blessed that we are able to maintain a healthy relationship through her teen years.  Our relationship is much healthier than mine and my mom’s relationship growing up, and I cannot tell you how thankful I am for that.

Honestly, I have my mom to thank for a lot of it.  I was the oldest, and she tells me all the time she learned with me that she could not be that mom that says do this and that, which is probably why she was so close with my brother and sister during their teen years.  She’s such a smart women, and I turn to her for advice all the time.  I would be lost without her.

Maintaining a happy and healthy relationship with my children into their teen years is extremely important to me, and I have spent time racking my brain looking for things to do with my teen daughter. If you are looking for things to do with your teen daughter, here are a few things my teen and I do to keep our relationship happy and healthy.

  • Movies – We don’t head to the movies often, but every two months or so a good movie will come out that we cannot live without seeing.
  • Baking – Bake something together.
  • Park – Go to the park and swing, go down the slide.
  • Walk – Go for an evening walk together.  It’s the perfect way to get your teen talking.
  • Garden – If you and your teen both enjoy gardening you might consider starting a garden together, or each have your own.  Allow you teen to choose the layout, and all her own flowers.
  • Stay up – Stay up late together, and watch a scary movies.  Oh, or better yet your favorite Disney flick.
  • Camping – Head for the hills, just the two of you for a night or two of camping.  It’s a great way to spend time together.
  • Bath the dog – Every now and again Catie and I will get sick of seeing one of the dogs looking like a step child.  We both love animals.
  • Crafts – Do a for your daughters room.
  • DYI – Come up with some fun DIY projects for your daughter’s room.  It’s fun, and they will love the end results.  Plus, this is a great way to get them talking.
  • Turn it up – Jump in the car, go for a drive and crank the music up.  Singeing is good for the soul.
  • YouTube – Watch some YouTube videos and giggle the night way.
  • Window Shopping – Take your teen window shopping, it will make purchasing birthday gifts easier, see what’s new when it comes to teens clothing, and allows you a chance to talk.
  • Shopping – There is nothing like shopping to bring the two of you closer, and the best part is you don’t have to spend a lot of money if you shop at Dollar General.
  • Color – It sounds cheesy, but my daughter and I will color one another a picture to hang on the wall.  She puts it in her room, I put it in my office. It’s fun, funny, and super special.
  • Snap shot – My teen loves to get dressed up, and me being mom I love to take pictures.  It works out perfectly.  We go out somewhere, and I practice my photography, and she gets to have fun acting like a model.
  • Roller skating – It’s so much fun! Plus, it’s a great way to focus on teen health too!
  • Bowling – There is more time to talk during bowling, plus a little friendly competition is good for both of you.
  • Teach & Learn – Teach one another something.  My daughter teaches me all kinds of great things, and it helps her not see me as the mom who knows everything.  It works for us.
  • Make jewelry – Between my teen and I we have tons of broken jewelry.  We spend $20 on different things to make more, and have fun making jewelry now and then.
  • Test drive – My daughter is nearing the age of driving.  While I am screaming I am trying to make it fun.  We have gone out and test drove a few cars just for fun.  She likes to look at the different cars, and I am hoping it’s motivating her to start saving for one, because this mom and dad will not buy her 1st car.
  • Ask – Believe it or not Catie and I have not always had the great relationship that we do.  It took me asking, and I was surprised by the response.  She still wanted her mom, I just had to put myself out there in a more friend kind of way.
  • Girl time – This is one of our favorite things to do together.  Whether we do each other’s hair, nails, feet, or just have a crazy hair girl day its loads of fun.  Yes, we went to Dollar General to get all our summer beauty productss for our girl time.

If you have not been by Dollar General recently they have some GREAT items, for awesome prices.  You can shop in store (which is my favorite) and online.  My daughter and I decided to go shopping for our last mom daughter day, we agreed that we would only spend $25 and get summer beauty products, which we could use daily and for mom daughter days.  Wondering what we got?

All kinds of great stuff –

Listerine – I had to get Listerine because there are so many great things it does aside from cleaning your mouth.  Catie and I soak our feet in a water, Listerine, and vinegar mixture and end up with silky smooth feet.  Sounds crazy, but it works GREAT.  My mother-in-law started us on it.  We also needed some Petroleum Jelly for after we soak our feet.  We put Petroleum Jelly on, socks to cover them and BAM soft feet in the morning!

Then Catie got a pair of flip-flops for $1, plus we were able to score all kinds of name brand hair care products, toothpaste, and more for less than I would have paid.  I was amazed at all the brand name products, and the prices of not only the name brand but the store brand products.  I left feeling like we scored pretty darn well!  Oh, and I got a picture frame to replace my broken one, it was super-duper affordable.

By the time it was said and done we went a little over our $25 budget, but the prices we so good I couldn’t help it.  Plus, it wasn’t that much over only about $5, which is better than I normally do lol.

We live close to Dollar General, and it’s great to see the fabulous selection of products they carry, not only beauty products, but everything else. If you haven’t been to your local Dollar General recently, I highly suggest swinging by, they have done a lot with the one where I live and I love how they keep on adding to the items they carry, but keep the prices low.

There is nothing more fun than spending time with your teen daughter.
