Tips To Help Save Money on a Baby Shower

by Jenn Brockman

Having a baby is expensive, and spending money on a baby shower can be costly.  So I wanted to share a few ways to save money on a baby shower.  I have several friends who are pregnant, my sister-in-law just found out she is having another baby, and soon I’ll be joining the mom-to-be club.

  • Ask friends and family for help with your baby shower.

If you are stubborn (yes, I am,) asking for help isn’t always easy, but asking friends and family can help you save money on a baby shower as well as time. You don’t have to ask them for financial help.  Ask them for their time – some time to help plan and set up, and those creative ideas will definitely come in handy.  If you have a crafty friend or family member, you’ll definitely want to include them..  Plus, asking friends and family members with different skills will be beneficial when you start planning.

2.) Consider your baby shower theme.

I didn’t have a theme when we put together Mattie’s baby shower, but I know it’s important to others.  When you think about your theme, consider tying food into your theme, handmade decorations, and the colors.  Making a cake, or cake pops that tie into your theme are affordable, as is making punch that is the same color as your baby shower theme.  Balloons are an affordable option, along with fake flowers, printed game cards, and don’t forget to ask everyone to see what they might have in storage that can be used.  Paper puffs, ribbon, wrapping paper, paper straws, and vases are all wonderful and affordable baby shower accessories.  Plus, if you get creative there is a lot you can do with them.

3.) Homemade invitations are a great way to save.

Whether you print invitations out from your computer or make them by hand, you can save a lot of money by making your own baby shower invitations.  You can even do text invites, it’s totally up to you.  I have received several text invites to showers in the past few years; I honestly didn’t mind at all.

4.) Decorations don’t have to cost an arm and a leg.

When you consider purchasing decorations go with things you’ll use again.  By decorating with bibs, onesies, adorable shoes, and other baby items you’ll be spending money on things you’ll use for the baby later while decorating your baby shower now.  It’s a win-win, and with cute, colorful, modern items from Child of Mine by Carter’s at Walmart you’ll find adorable baby items that will surely be a huge hit at the shower.

5.) Consider the location of your baby shower.

If you want to save money on a baby shower, you might consider having it at a friend’s, family member’s, or even your own house.

6.) Food can fit into your theme.

Consider having a potluck or asking close friends and family members to bring something.  I think it’s easier to ask close family and friends to bring a dish so you can stick with your theme.  Plus, they’re more likely to make adorable baby cookies, cakes, and things that will match your baby shower theme.

7.) Be creative when it comes to baby shower games

You have to have baby shower games, which can mean spending more money.  Use your computer for creating and printing baby shower game cards and if you need to purchase items, try to stick with things you’ll use for the baby – baby food, diapers, or even chocolate for mom, lol.

8.) Go with a diaper cake.

While mom might want a huge, awesome, real cake, she will likely appreciate a diaper cake.  It will save her some big bucks, and you can ask guests to RSVP and possibly pitch in a few dollars.

9.) Shop smart at places like Walmart

Smart shopping is essential to saving money.  Whether you’re shopping for a baby shower gift or baby shower decorations, Walmart is one of my favorite places to save money on baby shower items.  Plus, they now have Carter’s Child of Mine line exclusively at Walmart, which is one of my favorite brands.

10.) Register with Walmart

Be sure to register with Walmart, not only because of its low prices, but the convenience for your guests and yourself.  Almost everyone has a Walmart close by, and you can complete your registry at Walmart.com or in-store using the handy-dandy Walmart app.  If you’re new to creating a registry, you’ll find it easy to follow gift registry instructions too.

I remember before Mattie was born, I was so excited to buy adorable baby clothing and get her all dolled up, but I was also scared because I had never dressed an infant.  Becoming a mom is exciting, but there are a lot of scary thoughts that run through our heads.  Thankfully, Walmart and Carter’s understand this and provide parents with useful information so they can learn how to dress a newborn and a useful baby clothing essentials checklist to help you get started.

Creating your baby registry with Walmart will help save you and your guests time and money. With Child of Mine by Carter’s at Walmart, you can purchase items from America’s most trusted brand for babies and kids.  Carter’s is known for their quality, value, and OMG cute and easy outfit sets.  I love Carter’s, they’re one of my go-to brands and have been for years because they have adorable clothing that lasts, and a wide variety of products.

My two youngest have grown up wearing Carter’s clothing.  Mattie’s very first pair of adorable plush pink slippers were from Carter’s.  It’s truly one of my favorite brands.  I am excited to learn about their Child of Mine line at Walmart because more moms will get to experience the quality, price, and adorable products for their baby, toddler, and even young children.  I’m dreading the day Mattie is too big for Carter’s, but I have to think about the brighter side of things, at least there will be one more child here shortly to rock Carter’s Child of Mine line!

Child of Mine by Carter’s is more than quality products at great prices. The line is adorable, unique and makes finding that perfect outfit, nursery set, or even super cute sleepwear easy.  When you visit Walmart.com to set up your registry, Carter’s Child of Mine line stands out because it’s everything moms want for their precious baby.

Together Walmart and Carter’s give moms the help they need to save money so their family can live better.
