Diet burnout can happen to all of us. I have learned it’s better to prepare with a few weight loss tips to help you avoid diet burnout before it begins. It’s easier to have to avoid diet burn out than it is to stop it once you’re already feeling it. Everything sounds good January 1st, when we make our New Year’s resolution to lose weight, get fit or live healthier, but a few months down the road you might run into the dreaded diet burnout.
On January 1st, you might have resolved to focus on your health, get fit, or maybe lose weight by living a healthier, smarter lifestyle. The pounds start coming off, but along the way, you find yourself getting tired of the same old routine and the same old food. The idea of living a healthier lifestyle and losing weight isn’t as important, and you might be struggling to remember why your New Year’s resolution to lose weight was necessary. It’s normal, and unfortunately diet burnout can happen to anyone. However, there are ways to avoid diet burnout.
Last year was the first year I 100% stuck to my New Year’s Resolution and I’m super proud of myself. It wasn’t easy, but I did learn a few weight loss tips to help me avoid the dreaded diet burnout.

Here are ten weight loss tips that helped me avoid diet burnout and stay on track to a healthier, more fit me….
1) Be reasonable
Don’t be too hard on yourself. When you set small reasonable expectations, it’s easier to avoid becoming overwhelmed and easier to stick to your fitness plans.
2) Set goals
Set goals that are both short and long term. I think you need to keep your eye on the prize, but you also need to feel success continue your journey. Try setting daily or weekly goals, be sure they are something you can reach. Avoid setting yourself up for failure.
3) Remember it’s a journey not a race
Remember changing your lifestyle isn’t a race to see who can get there first. It’s a journey, especially if you want to continue living a healthy lifestyle and become a healthier person.
4) Scream it from the rooftops
Tell everyone about your New Year’s Resolution. Telling friends and family will make you feel accountable, and you never know you might end up with a workout buddy.
5) Remember we’re not perfect
Rather than beating yourself up because you made a mistake, stop, evaluate the situation and learn from it. We’re human; we make mistakes; the important thing is that we learn from each one of our mistakes to make us stronger, and more determined than before.
6) Track your weight loss
You don’t have to jump on the scale daily, but you should weigh in about once a week at the most every two weeks. Seeing the results can keep one motivated.
7) Measure, measure, and measure
Don’t just trust the scale to see your results. Remember our weight fluctuates each day, so it’s important to measure yourself to have an even better source.
8) Reward yourself
You don’t have to go out and eat to reward yourself, but it feels good to buy a new pair of pants once you reach certain milestones of your journey. Whether it’s a new ring, pants or a new blender do something that is rewarding.
9) Sit down to eat
So many of us are in a hurry and I’m guilty of eating on the go, but something I have learned, is it’s important to sit down and enjoy your meal. Sitting down to eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks when possible gives me a chance to actually enjoy my food, which does help me prevent diet burnout. So give it a try, start sitting down and taking the time to actually enjoy your meal.
10) Don’t get bored eating the same old thing
One of the worst things I did on my journey to a healthier me was allowed myself to get burnt out on the foods I was eating. You don’t have to get bored on a diet from eating the same old thing. There are so many great, healthier choices out there.
