6 Reasons Date Night Is Important

by Jenn

Gosh, I could go on and on about why date night is so important for married couples.  I’ve been there, life gets the best of you, and my husband and I drifted apart from one another.  Thankfully, we were able to put the spark back in our marriage, and we both work hard to make sure it stays that way, because we have experienced life without one another, and neither one of us want to go back to those days.  Now we focus on maintaining a happy and healthy relationship with passion.

Do you remember when you and your spouse started dating?  Well, the good news is those days don’t have to stop just because you’re married, and have a family.  Sure, they might be a little different, and it’s probably easier to make it through the day without texting them 943 times, but you can still look forward to seeing one another, and you don’t have to allow life to take control of you relationship.

6 Reasons Date Night Is Important

Here are 6 reasons date night is important for me.

Healthy Marriage – Spending quality time alone with one another, not talking about kids, but remembering why you love one another helps keep your marriage healthy.  It also helps to keep lines of communication open.

Take one another for granted – When you get lost in life it’s easy to take one another for granted.  Spending time along helps, you to be more considerate when it comes to feelings, likes, dislikes, and avoid falling into the trap of taking one another for granted.

Stay a couple – Date night is a chance to remember you’re a couple, not mom and dad.

Take a night off from the kids – We all love our children, but we also want them to see mom and dad happy. It’s okay to spend want to spend time alone with your spouse, and it’s even okay to tell the children why, because they want their parents to be happy.

Keep Your Marriage Alive – Date nights also helps keep your marriage alive.  Remembering why you fell in love with your spouse, helps you see them in a different light, and it’s important if you want to keep the excitement in your marriage.

Look forward to something – I look forward to date night with my husband. It gives me a reason to think about what I want to wear, my hair, and makeup because I want to look nice for our night together, even if we just stay up for a bowl of ice cream and a movie.
My husband and I try to do something once a week, there are tons of great date night ideas.  Don’t stress if the kids are home, they don’t need to be gone, they just need to be asleep.  Put them in bed early, enjoy a nice bath, some Breyers Gelato Indulgences, and a movie in bed.

We recently had a mom and dad day.  My husband was off work for an entire week, so one day was our day.  We took the kids to school and spent the day together, and it was amazing.  From breakfast, to the  awesome Breyer Gelato Indulgences we enjoyed after the kids went to bed.  See because date night doesn’t have to be when the kids are gone, put them to bed early and have a relaxing evening together.

It was so nice to spend time together, it reminded me of when we started dating, and we both would call in sick to work just to spend time together. I want to keep my husband happy because when I’m put in the effort to make sure he is happy he does the same for me.

What do you think?  Is date night important, if so why is it important to you?
