Homemade lip balm is so much fun to make and it seriously less expensive than spending $3 or more at the store. Not to mention DIY Coconut Oil Lip Balm is SUPER easy to make and there are so many different recipes. I like making them for the holidays becasue they help add a nice personal touch. Here is my personal favorite, but you can also make it without beeswax if you don’t have any laying around.
DIY Coconut Oil Lip Balm with Beeswax
You’ll need:
- 1 tsp beeswax (packed)
- 2 tsp coconut oil
- 3 drops Vitamin E oil
- ½ tsp honey
- Clean container – old lip balm container works perfectly fine.
- Microwave safe bowl
- Spoon to mix
- Lipstick, blush, or shimmery eye shadow for color (I typically add color, but I didn’t this time because I’m making the lip balm to go with Marley’s Beyoncé COTY Fragrance Gift Set and she doesn’t like colored anything on her lip).
How to make DIY Coconut Oil Lip Balm with Beeswax:
- Make sure your container is clean and dry before anything else.
- Combine all the ingredients in your microwave safe bowl (the amount of lipstick you put in all depends on your preference. Just keep in mind it tends to look darker in the container than it is when you put it on) and put it in the microwave to melt using 10 second increments until the beeswax is melted. You can also use the stove and a double broiler to melt if you’d rather do it that way. I like the microwave because it’s fast and easy.
- Remove from the microwave and mix ingredients together. Be careful the mixture will be HOT!
- Once everything is heated and mixed, you can pour it into your container and allow to cool for a few hours. I like to place mine in the refrigerator to speed up the cooling process.
Since the light colored lip balm didn’t show up too well I went a head and added color to another one, plus I could use it myself or maybe, just maybe give it to my teen lol.
DIY lip balm is fun, and it’s something you can experiment with by adding different colors of lipstick, cocoa powder for flavor and color, and, of course, mixing things up with different oils and flavors for your very own lip balm.

Directions for the DIY Coconut Oil Lip Balm without Beeswax:
- The DIY Coconut Oil Lip Balm without Beeswax is easy to make. Just follow the above instructions but remember without the beeswax your lip balm will melt easier. I think coconut oil can stay up to 78 degrees before it begins melting. I’m not positive about that, but I do know, from experience that it isn’t a good idea to carry around in your pocket lol.
DIY Coconut Oil Lip Balm makes a great gift to your favorite girls. I made this for my sister-n-law who needs a little girlie pick me up. She’s one of my best friends, I love her to pieces, and she has been having such a hard time the past few months. I haven’t talked about it a lot because it almost makes things more permit, but my nephew passed away in August. It’s been very hard for a lot of us, but his mommy and daddy are just broken, other than being there for them and loving all I can do is anything and everything in my power to help them smile.
